press photos like this just make me laugh. those guys look like some mountain dew sponsored faux-punk outfit ready to saturate mtv. of course, one listen to their latest bungle-esque psychotic concept album, Adultery, would dispell any such illusions. when i walked in to the beat kitchen tonight and saw the lead singer with a mohawk and wearing a dress, it made much more sense. if that's possible.
As promised, my friend tim was playing keys for DFD. when i heard that, i, like josh, assumed he'd just be hanging out in the back, trying to keep up. boy was i wrong. tim was working overtime giving tub ring's rob kleiner a run for the title of "most intense keyboardist ever". i swear his kicks were going up over his head. making faces, dancing up a storm, laying on the keyboard... for a while he was upstaging the singer.
where dog fashion disco was choreographed silliness, tub ring was unbridled insannity. they played straight through the first 45 minutes, without any breaks between songs. rob was, as usual, going insane, jumping on his keyboard stand, screaming and flailing, and going for the title full throttle. somewhere around a half hour in, my face started to hurt from grinning so much. They played mostly Zoo Hypothesis material, until the end of the show. apparently tub ring was recently on MTV (why am i the last one to find these things out?), in some sort of battle of the bands. since they lost out in the finals, they are now apparently touring the country showing off their finely tuned cover of justin timberlake's "rock your body". rob handled the higher end of the vocal scale, which was all the more impressive given the fact that he had only a minute ago stopped humping his keyboard.
and, what entry would be complete these days without me trying to foce my musical taste on you? i'll go easy, and offer up the more radio friendly material:
Dog Fashion Disco - The Darkest Days
Tub Ring - Negative One [alt]
and, just for fun, tim's old band, Duct Tape Mustache (note that they don't have anything resembling radio friendly):
Duct Tape Mustache - Nerve

HAHAHAHAHA. That’s so awesome the way you said that. Sounds like everyone had a good time ;).
oh man, it was so much fun. if they were playing georgia at all, i’d tell you to go, rob really does just go straight from one to the other.
